I created an illustration for the Document Series to accompany the first film in the series, Rodents of Unusual Size. This documentary explores life in Delacroix Island, a little-known region south of New Orleans that, after surviving the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, now faces a new and unexpected threat—hordes of 20-pound invasive rodents known as nutria. These creatures, originally from South America, have a voracious appetite that is accelerating the destruction of Louisiana’s coastal wetlands, one of the fastest-disappearing landmasses in the world. My illustration was designed to visually capture the urgent environmental and ecological challenges presented in the film, emphasizing the resilience of the local community and the impact of invasive species on fragile ecosystems.
